How to Separate Storm Debris Before Pickup
Sort vegetation from building material and stop when utilities or unstable structures are involved.

Stay away from downed lines, leaning trees, unstable roofs and flood-contaminated material. Follow local emergency direction and use qualified help before ordinary hauling begins.
Create material groups
Keep clean vegetation apart from fencing, construction material, appliances, electronics, household garbage and hazardous waste. Local instructions may route each group differently.
Document before moving
Photograph the affected area and each material group. For an insurance-related loss, follow the insurer’s documentation instructions before removing material.
Keep collection paths clear
Do not block hydrants, drains, sidewalks, traffic or utility access. Confirm current municipal instructions because post-storm collection rules can change.
